In 2013, I got sober, but I basically just swapped out the alcohol for sugar. I was obese, exhausted, and lazy as hell. While working full-time and getting my MBA with zero free time, I was peer-pressured into a 5K. I went all-in, lost 30 lbs, but was in an endless start-stop cycle of being injured because I went at it with no plan, no prep.
I realized that pushing myself to the absolute max just wasn't sustainable. So, I regrouped. I’ve always been lazy. But I wanted to lose weight. So instead of pushing everything through with willpower, I figured, why not try building a system that required the least effort to execute and still see progress. I automated my meals, scheduled my movement, and stopped relying on willpower. Those "lazy systems" helped me drop another 30 lbs, stay injury-free, and even cross the finish line as an Ironman.
